Meet Our Company

19th century witchetSam Lipscomb began his experience by working for a local homebuilder.  Sam was a remodeling superintendent.  In the late 70's, the economy in the Midwest was very depressed and hit the building industry hard.  Sam's employer declared bankruptcy in 1977, leaving one more unemployed carpenter.  With few available jobs, Witchet Remodeling was founded in 1978.  The initial goals were to put food on the table and in the process develop a reputation for quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.

The most popular question we get is, "What is a witchet?"

A witchet is a 19th century tool used to hone square wooden pegs into round pegs for heavy timber construction, like those grand old homes built by our ancestors. That method of construction proved remarkably solid and enduring.

Sam Lipscomb, Owner and President

Sam Lipscomb has been involved in remodeling for over 35 years.  Sam has spent a large amount of time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, leading groups on week long projects to different states.   Sam is a happily married man with three children and a devoted Purdue University fan since his three children are alumni.  In his spare time, he avidly pursues the knowledge of Indiana history, but his favorite pastime continues to be creating with wood.

One of Sam's creative outlets includes carving pieces of wood to exentuate the spirits found in each piece. The carvings pictured here include:

  • Wood Spirit CarvingsCyprus from San Antonio, TX
  • Driftwood from Jenner Beach in CA
  • Eastern Red Cedar from Fort Wayne, IN
  • Maple from the Wabash River
  • Sugar Pine from the Salamone River in SD

Can you match the carvings to the list of woods above?

Shane Hollingsworth, Construction

Shane HollingsworthShane Hollingsworth is the newest addition to Witchet Remodeling. Shane spent his early years in rural Bryan, Ohio before moving to Fort Wayne at age 13. He is a graduate of Ball State University with a degree in elementary education. For many years Shane held a variety of positions in the law enforcement profession. For his leisure and relaxation hours, his favorite activities include fishing, hunting, boating, playing softball and about any other outdoor venture. Spending time with his extended family and loved ones is also a very important part of Shane’s life. Shane is not entirely new to Witchet as he has worked part time for Witchet during the last four years. We welcome Shane once again and are both proud and pleased to have him on our team. He’s one swell guy, and he has one son who was born in June 2008.
